Green Target: Let’s Go – Hockey Stops
(braking with paralell skis)

• Course info:
duration: 2 hrs  14:00 – 16:00     Meeting Point: Alpe di Siusi – Hotel Sole    Cost: € 45,00
participants: minimum 3 – maximum 4 people

• Required Ski Ability:
I already know how to take a chairlift. I am able to make snowplow turns and traverse on easy slopes (blue) without skidding down.

• Course Goal:
I will be able to suddenly stop anywhere, including narrow roads.

• How course is carried out:
we will start with very simple exercises that will help you perceive your body movements and make you more aware of your current abilities. We will continue with specific exercises to develop the necessary motor skills required to make hockey stops and efficient braking. We will than try hockey stops, initially at slow speeds on very easy slopes. As we go on we will increase speed and move into steeper terrain untill we can suddenly stop on steep and narrow slopes.

• Why  should we learn hockey stops?
Hockey stops, that is breaking with paralell skis, is the most efficient known way to stop rapidly and drastically reduce speed and breaking distance. (this is how professional racers stop). Being able to stop in front of any sudden obstacle increases our confidence to ski steeper terrain (red slopes). Skiing faster also decreases fear of people coming from behind.
